This discussion-driven course focuses on what a manager needs to know and think about regarding the use of technology in the workplace. This course focuses on seven Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) domains; IS/IT Overview, IS/IT Governance, IS/IT Strategic Planning, Network Infrastructure, Internet Applications, Business Strategy using IS/IT and an IS/IT Case Study. Learners also examine information systems and infrastructures within their places of work. Case studies are used to assess trends, IS/IT strategy and the decision-making processes used by management. Rest assured, this is NOT a computer-programming course!
The approach utilizes a combination of the following to achieve its outcome: Assigned text readings, assigned questions and the case problems, classroom discussion in small and large groups, and classroom activities designed to promote active learning. Such active learning techniques include: short quizzes, in-class writing assignments, brainstorming and role playing.
